Hi all, on a 70 cuda was there ever a material used by the factory between the straps and the tank?  I get a lot of vibration noise on a gravel road and found it to be the tank vibrating between the straps.  Should I just tighten them up?

Yes, they make insulators for the straps.  Do you have a pad between the tank and trunk floor? That could be it too.

:iagree: do you have a pad above the tank?  Also, loose shock bolts (the tops of the rear shocks) can cause rattling too.

I will have to see what is above the tank.  I will look for the insulators. The shocks are new and tight.  Thanks for the quick response. jim

I do have insulation between my trunk floor and the top of my gas tank but I do not have anything between my tank and the tank straps on my '71.  Was this a '70 only thing?  :clueless:

Burdar

No insulation between straps and tank...only between tank and body.  If the tank rattles, try tightening the straps some more.  :alan2cents:

They did not originally come on the straps, but you can get them now.  As @Burdar suggests, try tightening the straps first before you go spend money.

Rattle can come from OEM mufflers hitting against gas tank flange. Bad design.

I have AMD and AMD straps. I'm damned sure my rattles are from mufflers. It's obvious they are making contact. Way too tight of a space to place mufflers IMO.

My muffler heat shield came loose once that was my rattle .

I seemed to have a few bad actors.  The straps were loose.  Tightened them but still rattled the tank was new and the straps were original but had a small difference in the bends by 1/16 inch so I installed felt paper cut the same width.  Then I noticed the jack was also wore through the small rubber pad fixed to the mount.  Corrected that. Still a rattle.  Then I put car on jacks and looked around all was tight and new.  Then when I wiggled the gas line it rattles in the new mounts.  Looks like the restorer used the 3/8 fuel line clamps and this is a 340 car with 5/16 lines.  So I have to remedy this.  Supposed to rain all week so it is staying in the garage for now.  The mufflers/resonators are close and the heat shields are bolted tight.  I don't like that design either.
