Hello all!

I'm in the process of doing some pre-testing before I fire up this EFI conversion on the '70 Barracuda.  I've isolated the wire(s) that will give me 12v at crank and key on.  I'd like to crank the ignition to test,  but not the starter as I am still fine tuning the distributor.

Are there any wires away from the starter that I can disconnect to remove it from the circuit?  Just want to avoid creeping under and removing at the starter.

Yep, go to the starter relay and remove the yellow wire from it. Should be a spade connector.

You can also put it in gear as long as your neutral safety switch works. Everything will work "in crank" except for the starter relay + starter.

Thank you.

I'll take a look at the relay area and double check.

One additional thing to be cognative is fuel delivery. Dont know what system you are using. If injectors are firing and you are not starting the motor can flood to point of hydro locking. Can also flood fuel into oil.
In short, be sure to have fuel cut off switch also.

Thanks Mike.

Right now I have the injector harness unplugged until the engine is timed.  Holley suggests timing the engine with cranking only.

Any system I have seen won't do anything but an initial  key on pulse without seeing a tach input.

Understood. My wiring for fuel pump is not currently tied into MS3X I am eventually going to finish. Hopeful you would be open to some guidance when I make it back into it legitimately.

Is this the yellow wire that I need to disconnect?

Also, what is the other spade connector beside it for?  Should it be connected as well (it was disconnected, not sure if I pulled it by mistake or not)?

TIA,

Steve

Yes that's the yellow wire. The other goes to the neutral safety switch, or clutch switch.

Either one should disengage the starter relay.
