As some of you might know by now, I am trying to have my '70 Challenger RT/SE 440-6 restored back to OE as best I can w/o going bankrupt and/or end up in the funny farm due to excess stress trying to find parts, etc.

I need to find a battery for the car, I went to Antique Auto Battery, for Dodge batteries, http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/chrysler.html, but am confused as to their descriptions.

I am sure I need red caps, 27 size but for my date, 1965-74, their description says yellow or green caps, but, if I look at 1959-64, then I can get that in red caps, same size as the other date range, but the look is a little different. I attach the descriptions. I called them twice and had to leave a VM both times. Kind of want to get the battery ordered ASAP. The quicker I get this car completed the quicker you all get to see the final result. :)

Am I wrong in thinking my car had the red caps? I do not have my broadcast sheet to refer to, window sticker does not have that info, I have tried looking at pictures from there Challengers but most pics do not show the battery

I'll attach the screen shots

Thanks

Good luck getting a return call from them. :alan2cents:
They have an inquiry form you can fill out and they will probably reply to that. There have been many complaints about them and even reports they are out of business recently.  I need a group 24 yellow cap and contacted them in early March, no return calls but they did respond to my inquiry on the website.  Then no way to order, and no return call when I called to order.  Then I tried replying to their email and an older sounding woman called me back.  Against my better judgement I placed an order with her and the ETA is late April early May.  They haven't charged my card yet as far as I can tell but am concerned in the end I'll end up having to dispute the charge if they do charge and I don't get a battery in the next month.
Group 27 is red cap btw.
I'll report here if I get my battery, I'm keeping my fingers crossed as for the time being there are no sources for repro Mopar batteries other than them.  Another company is supposed to be gearing up to do them, but I don't know the ETA.

Apparently Turbo Start batteries is going to be reproducing these.

Ask @MoparDave if he has any updates on this.

Here is the message I got from Antique Auto Battery a month ago-

The g24ml is 265.00 plus 41.50 shipping and build time is 4-6 weeks

As I mentioned, with some reservations I did order, and will be interested in seeing if it actually shows up here in the next few weeks.  Dave mentioned in a previous post on the subject he doesn't know when Turbostart will get up and running producing these, but it will be later this year and I needed something in time for this years show and cruise season!

nothing new or confirmed on the batteries. I have left multiple messages for antique auto, In other conversations I come to find out they supply classic auto battery and they are both in disarray. turbo start is 2 year behind from what they wanted to be but are still working forward on these batteries. anyone wanting/need a battery that dont look like crap under the hood, Just go to your local FCA dealer and get a mopar replacement battery. I sell the group 27 over the counter for 125.00. # BB027700AA or BB027750AA its a big cased battery with the amps. not a crappy red or yellow cased battery that looks way out of place.  :alan2cents:

Does Mopar sell a group 24?
I'm happy with the red cap battery topper I'm using on my convertible.  It works with a group 24 battery.  It won't make the grade for a concours or reference restoration, but for anything below that I see no reason to deal with the cost and hassle of finding a repro battery.
I've got 2 dead red caps here and a dead yellow cap.  Someday I'll get ambitious and hollow one out and install a small racing battery inside it.  I've seen that done before and is great, messy and a lot of work though it seems.

Where are you seeing this about Antique having problems or being out of business? Hopefully that is not the case. I have ordered from Antique Auto in the past and been very satisfied. The older lady is the owner. She is very knowledgeable on classic car batteries. Turbo Start produced the reproduction batteries in the past but had nothing to do with Antique. I specifically asked her this when I ordered my battery a few years ago. At that time Turbo Start had stopped producing the MOPAR reproduction batteries all together.

There were several Better Business Bureau complaints concerning Antique Auto Battery and the BBBs website listed them as no longer in business on their webpage.  Since I dealt with them last month this info doesn't seem correct.

Ok, I am not too thrilled with the replies about antique auto, here is another vendor I found, does anyone have any experience with them?

At the bottom of the page, it says Classic Car Battery.  So looks like same issues as Antique Batt.  Sure hope there is some solution to this.

Here is what the current replacement group 27 looks like.

Through Summit, I ordered a yellow top battery produced by Turbo Start. It was a terrible battery. After constant dead batteries, boosts, changing chargers etc... I brought it into a local battery rebuilder and he said it was one of the cheapest AGM batteries he had ever seen. He ended up gutting it and putting a smaller AGM battery in it. Never again did I have a problem.

They are not worth the money. I know you are looking for looks but beware of turbo start. It's almost ironic that the word "start" is in the company name. This battery certainly did not embody their company name.
Someday I will have a J0b.
