I found my car on Mecum

Great car! I'd be proud to own it. I agree that if the paint and body are good the incorrect details can be tackled as you wish as time goes on and a few like the steering wheel I would leave be as well. R/T and Cuda convt's don't grow on trees and getting one in decent shape and an attractive colour isn't as easy as going to the dealer and ordering what you like.
Also so you're aware I believe the screw spacing on 70 to 71 and later side mirrors is different, It's been years so I might be wrong but it is something to check.

I have no idea of value.  I think many of us overpaid or spent more than intended on a restoration.  Its all good if its what you want.  You say the car had what you were looking for so good for you for finding it even if it cost you more than its "worth"

I say leave what you can and if something really bothers you and its not factory correct, correct it, but the amount of money spent on correcting items isnt going to bridge the gap vs what you can ask when selling it vs what you spent on correcting items.

I don't know anyone that has done this.   :)  At least that's what I tell my wife.

I remember seeing the car go through Mecum. There's not to many chances to get into a real 70 R/T convertible like this with a great color combo and loaded with options like this. Nice car.

Volvo probably bought the car at Mecum, you would be surprised how many dealers buy there and at other auctions.....

Will be hard to get info from Mecum as I have tried......they sell thousands of cars a year

Thanks, I figured as much getting information from Mecum .

I will ask Volo again ( they don't seem inclined to give much information either) but since the Mecum auction was in July 2020 and Volo titled the car in June of 2021, I would think they purchased post auction.  Volo runs partially as a "museum" so it's possibly they sat on the car. Just don't know why wait on titling.   

Was hoping someone might also recognize from the auction but that's the way it goes.

Mirror screw spacing is 3" center-to-center for 1970 and 1971-1974 E-Body racing mirrors.

As runcharger said,  mirror spacing is different.  And it is.
It's not much, but enough to make using factory  nutserts difficult to impossible

I've never found the hole spacing to be different, if fact the convertible I'm doing right now came in with 70 mirrors and is leaving with 71 mirrors...I didn't have to move the nutserts  :dunno:

From the foggy recesses of my brain,  I  recalled them being slightly different.  That's why I  agreed with runcharger. Now earlier in a different thread he said 3" for both years.
Now, having just moved,  I cannot find my box of mirrors,  but I measured two doors and yes , 70 is 3". 71up is.  3 1/8"  Not huge, but it prevented me from using machine thread screws mounting a 71 on a 70 with factory nutserts.

Checking my notes:   2 7/8 to 3 1/8 in 1970 tolerances equals 3  :haha:

Guess I will find out if its a problem when I get there, but not overly concerned if it is.   :burnout:

Hey MKA, I  try to be a beacon in the sea of misinformation.
This only  matters if you are trying to reuse your factory nutserts.
Found my box of mirrors. Every 70 is 3"
Every 71 is 3 1/8 plus on the actual mirror base casting.
Maybe the problem is so many aftermarket mirrors or loose/ non stock nutserts have been compromised. 
Extra slop.
