I found this Cuda for sale. I realize the stripe is wrong for a 72 but I have some questions.
Is the stripe the right colour or should it be more red?
Did the Cuda ever come with red/orange hood scoop inserts?
What years did the grille get the red/orange paint treatment and was the correct colour more of a red?

No red hockey stripe only black, 1970 only. grill inserts were black and the grill inserts, I an not sure.  :alan2cents:

So even the TX9 cars got a black hockey stick stripe? Then all the black cars with red or orange stripe are wrong?

I think the inserts were black?  :notsure:

The stripes were black or white only in 1972.

That's the correct color grill and inserts. They are more of an orange then red. And your right, that's a 70 only stripe. Everyone puts that one on because it is probably the nicest looking stripe.

So... ...since there was no red stripe originally then a red stripe would be wrong. Therefore if I put it on a 71-74 which are the wrong years for that stripe, then I would have two wrongs. If two wrongs make a right then it should all be good!  :D

YES....from the factory the famous "hockey stick" stripe ONLY came in gloss black, not white, not red, not even matte black.

That 72 Cuda obviously has the incorrect spoilers and hood pins as well, never offered in 1972+
Also all the hood scoop inserts for that style hood were flat black from the factory for all 1970-74.

:iagree:  Just because the factory didn't offer it doesn't mean they shouldn't have.  I love that stripe on a black Cuda!

It's a good looking car but I think it's too much money for 340 auto.

That's still a nice looking car and if you like it you should make them an offer. Was just looking at Hemmings yesterday and noticed their E-bodies are almost all priced at the the very high end of reasonable. Maybe 10 - 20% overpriced. Would assume the sellers would take offers, otherwise most of them wouldn't sell at those prices.  :alan2cents:

:iagree: that is a good looking car! I might get rid of the scoop insert job and enjoy it like that, at a reasonable price.

Great looking car. A few wrong things, the worst is the spoiler because it would leave holes so best would be to leave it there. Stripe is wrong but it peels off, hood scoop inserts should be black, 5 minutes to fix. Again a beautiful looking car, $15k too high I think but I would love to drive it.
