I restored a 3spd 70 Barracuda once, but of course the owner wanted a four speed installed....When I suggested installing a four speed transmission, but instead of a pistol grip, put a straight stick with a black ball, he thought I was nuts...EVERYBODY wants that pistol grip shifter....the coolest shifter of all time ...all makes...all models :alan2cents:

As for your poll, I voted to leave it stock, anything other than that is just a boring clone that has been done a million times over...if you want a nice drivable classic Challenger, dip your toe into the resto-mod world and go with a Gen III Hemi with modern suspension and steering  :alan2cents:

Even though I voted in your poll to keep it the 383 3spd (because I'm a purist, especially on rare optioned E's), I'd agree with another comment saying keep the 3 on a shelf for original value's sake, and slam in a 4 speed. I owned a 71 vert 3 speed that was a lot of fun, but I also owned a 70 RT vert, 4 speed 440 that was indescribably fun. Main thing is HANG ONTO THAT ORIGINAL 3 SPEED!

Mr Cuda

It didn't come with the original 3spd, or any 3spd.  I don't think a base challenger r/t hardtop with a 3spd will ever bring additional money over a 4spd.
But I  do agree with the homage of keeping a low deck and a ball shifter.
Then you can tell everyone it's a 3spd,  and unless they see you shift into reverse,  who'd know.

Thanks for all the votes/replies.  Those who know me know I like things that are different.  Hence my building my convertible into a T/A (since they never made them, I don't consider it a clone).  I like that it's different being a three speed, good color combo, good options and it will be fun to build.  I don't build my cars with resale value in mind.

I appreciate everyone's opinions and ideas.  I think I'll bring this one back to original - but maybe build up that 383 a little......
Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.
