I thought I'd start a new question about a battery tray I picked up in 1983. It is stamped differently than the other battery trays available now. The part number is 2925322. There were no reproduction battery trays in 1983. I had the Dodge dealer parts man in Bremerton search for a battery tray somewhere in the system and he found an old one in Portland. I had him get it for me for less than $15 I think. Anyway the red primer tray is what I got. Notice the stamping is different with an extra hole and different raised portion in the top of the one picture and an extra hole. The black tray is one I pulled out of my 71 hardtop to repaint. You can see the part number stamped in the one picture. The reproduction trays are like the black one. I'm also including the shipping tag photo. The one in my 71 convertible is like the black one and is a replacement I put in years ago. Is the red one NOS? Thanks.

Black one is correct. Red is over the counter NOS.

That is the reason that highly restored cars seek out assembly line parts as over the over counter parts can be revised multiple times to fit no telling what through the years.  That is the other issue in reproducing parts that your sample is verified for the correct year model and application as many parts got swapped out during the years.

I totally agree. There are many differences between assembly line correct verses NOS over the counter. Took me 12 years to get all the correct assembly line pieces for my 6 pack rag 4-speed Cuda.  Assembly line parts cost a premium over NOS.

Thank you for the info. This over the counter one will be ideal for a modification I want to do. I'm going to attach hose barbs to the drain holes in the tray and then attach tubing to the barbs to drain any acidic fluids from the tray to below the frame rail to avoid corrosion on the inner fender and frame rails. Should work.
