I cant seem to find this one/two details,    Its a federal pump.

1.  does the gasket surface get painted or masked off?
2.  Filler cap painted?

My  :alan2cents:

For the 1970 Saginaw pump:
1. The top edge of the filler neck should be masked off.
2. Filler cap is plastic and not painted.

Thanks for the input, I should have stated it is a Federal Pump.

From what I saw at many car shows, the metal cap on the Federal pump is not painted but like a galvanized steel finish. But i have no idea if that is correct. I have the Signaw pump.

Here'a a picture of the original pump from my 71 Cuda 340.  You can see that the cap was painted.  There was no paint under the cap so I figure that the pump was painted with the cap on.

That's awesome, thanks for the pic.
