I bought a 1970 Barracuda Grand Coupe today to make into my next resto-mod...
I've never seen a factory "RECALL NOTICE" before dated May 7th 1971 thought that was cool, for the seat safety catch
and also just about every year title receipt from the original owner up to about 1992

After you chop into that baby you'll be able to turf it all into the fireplace without feeling guilty!

How about showing us your new fine ride?
Your going to modify a rare gran coupe?  The purists won't like that.

I have to save it first before I destroy it by making it a resto-mod...

Nice. So you bought a done car.  There's always a story here, about what happened.

The roof will come down with the rail pull. Hopefully there's not alot of hidden structure rust.

anlauto

Car is "done" alright ! :crying:

Car is a rust free Oregon car most of it's life, came to Canada in 2016. All original panels, no previous rust repair....should pull out well....will need an apron likely and maybe a front rail.
The accident happened last month, while the owner was out for a nice Saturday drive. Lady pulled out if front of them, and was charged. Hagerty wrote it off, owner got it back...clean title.

Looks like it was a great driver car. So, I have to ask. If the lady pulled out and was charged, why would Hagerty have to cover the cost of the totaled car? Wouldn't the other driver's insurance company have to cover that? Did the other driver not have insurance?

In Ontario we have "No fault" insurance, each company covers themselves. I guess if there was proof of fault after the fact, then Hagerty goes after the other insurance company  :dunno:  I don't really know how it works, however the owner said he had a great hassle free experience with Hagerty

Before: Owner added the hood of course....It also has a brand new Tremec TKX 5 speed in it, that appears to have survived the "hit" :burnout:

What a shame, that was a nice looking car with original sheetmetal. The upside is it will live again rather than be parted out which is what would have happened 15 years ago.

Alan, I can't make out the VIN-- if it's an Oct/Nov Hamtramck build, can you check to see if it has the correct build sheets in the seats?

I've got a '70 leather seating car and I've got two incorrect build sheets from two GC's that are late Oct/Nov builds (neither are black paint though).  Still hoping to find mine!

The plan to "resto-mod" it was not mine. The owner was going to have me do it later this year until the accident...he wants out so I bought it...

It an "E" California built car, so likely no BCS  :crying:

I meant it was a shame it got wrecked Alan, not that it will be restomodded even though that isn't my thing. I am happy the car is going to live.

Thank you Sheldon....I know resto-mod not for everybody.

The owner was ecstatic when I showed interest in buying it, and the generous offer I made...he too, thought no one would tackle it and it would have been scrapped...He actually has his eye on another car on Vancouver Island if you know anybody out there that would transport it to Ontario for him, let me know.
