Scored a 440 today

Sometimes things just fall into your lap!  :yes:

Today I picked up a std bore 440 block, 906 heads, new mopar oil pan/pickup, new Mopar oil pump, timing cover, balancer, water pump housing, new mopar water pump, '70 six pack rods, new set of pistons & rings, new eagle crank, new mopar rocker arms, pushrods,  freeze plugs, gaskets, distributor pump shaft and a couple other odds and ends.

15 min from my house.

Let the build begin.

Congrats on a great score! Keep an eye on the Mopar water pump. Neil and Murray and I had a nasty experience with a brand new one on Andy's Cuda and it seems to me that someone else recently had the same experience. Besides that wee caveat, go for it! What'll it be? Wild or mild?  :cheers:

The 6 pack rods may not be the hot ticket either , they are strong but very heavy , modern I beams would be a better choice , you can use the 6 pack rods but take the whole weight off the cap & the sides of the beams to lighten them as much as possible then balance the assy .
Otherwise great score on the 440 !!

I'm not sure how I'll build it yet.  I don't think I'll go too wild as I want it to be streetable.  When I built the 416 for my Barracuda, I went wild and it was a little tough for "regular" driving.  LOL 

I think I'll do a mild build - something a little more than stock but not crazy.  Also need to decide between 4 bbl and six pack.   I have a couple of 4 bbl intakes in the shed, but never had a six pack before.

Personally I would do a 512 build , initially it seems wild but with that much CI it is actually very mild
6 pack is all about looks , I have proven that they will perform better with a Street Dom intake & a 4 bbl Proform

Going to stay 440 since I have the crank already.  The intakes I have are a stock '70 and a single plane MP (I don't remember the MP part number at the moment) which I think will be too much for a mild build.  I like the Proform carbs, too!

Leaning toward 6 pack to go with the T/A theme I am thinking about.

Would you mind sharing your experience with the waterpump? Is it the A31079 with the 8 blades?

I don't know the # of the pump, but I believe it was a 8 blade unit. Neil can perhaps clarify there. The issue was that it leaked like a sieve when we started the car and it was brand new. If my sponge brain recalls properly, it was coming out of the shaft. We put a jobber pump in and had no more problems with it.  :cheers:

I can't remember clearly either , it was a "performance" Alum pump , I worked on 18 different cars in 8 weeks  :Thud:
