Always reading about how E bodies can go up in flames. Felt I had done everything possible to prevent it. Few days ago Wife and I were out cruising. Stopped to eat and she told me she could smell hot plastic. First thing I thought of was a short. Opened the hood, looked and felt everything possible and looked felt under the dash. Luckily we were close to home so I decided to go there watching the volt meter constantly. Put it on the lift and looked everything over again. Then just happened to turn around and noticed the exhaust pipes had what looked like snot hanging off of them. It was the remains of a piece of plastic !!  Wife came out to shop and found me laughing and wondering why I was acting that way. Then she saw it and laughed also. I fired it back up until it got hot again and scraped it off. I sent a little prayer to the mopar gods that night.   LOL.

I got the same gunk on the bottom of my headers. And it smelled like something was burning too. what's the best method to remove it?

A little lacquer thinner on a scotchbrite pad takes off oil stains so I'd give that a try.

I got it hot again and used a paint scraper then a wire brush.
