I had a really nice 70 super bee I used to take to the Spring Fling car show and I stopped taking the car there after a while. It would piss me off to no end when some expert would come up to my car and proceed to tell me all the things that were "wrong" about my car. I got tired of it and stopped bringing my car. I would still go to the show to admire the other cars but mine stayed at home or was parked out on the street.

Not much bugs me about how people do their cars. Correct or not correct they can still be well done.

My biggest pet peeve is a Cuda Billboard stripe on a car where they didn't bother to black out the rear Marker Light Bezel. Jumps out at me every time.

#1- I've never been a big Billboard Fan
#2- If you are going to add the Billboard might as well do it right

Keystone rear bumpers that don't fit well. Funny once you own one and are forced to deal with it I sure notice a lot of others cars with the same issue.  :deadhorse:

Oh do I ever have the gear grinders. Lets just say I'm a purist when it comes to American Classics, regardless of how they were equipped new. I'm just going to leave it there. Oh, and a certain nickname for a certain car...that's it. Mouth shuts.

I like restomods, things that improve performance and handling. But side mirrors delete and shaved door handles, 20" wheels are not for me.

I think every member here will have a different answer to this question because everybody is in the hobby for different reasons, has his/her own likes and dislikes....
But one thing I'm sure we can ALL agree on is nobody likes that one guy at the car show that thinks he knows everything and he comes over pointing to your car telling you, or anybody that will listen...what's wrong with YOUR car or what he doesn't like about YOUR car....you know the guy, every car show has one....I think his name is Dick ?
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

For me it's when people take a perfectly good car and try to make it look like something it's not, such as an earlier or later more desirable vintage.
It is usually instantly noticed by anyone that knows what they are looking at and fools no one.
I am currently putting my Rallye 73 challenger back to factory correct and undoing the blacked out tail and front, etc.
I'm proud to own a highly optioned 73 and if I wasn't, I wouldn't have bought it.

This is the type of mods I see as ok and not a deal breaker as they can be undone without huge costs or time involved.  I respect the call for going back to original paint treatment.

I parked next to a green hemi Belvedere at a car show once and that guy explained to me that only rare cars like he is, six packs, 409s, tri powers, etc. should be allowed at car shows since they are really the only collectible cars people want to come see. All others with lesser engine or options package should be crushed making the truly rare cars even more desirable. At first I thought he was joking around but after hearing that crap off and on throughout the day, it was clear he wasn't joking. That guy was a dick!

personally I'd rather look at a 340 or a clone car that some guy put allot of love and work into rather than a high pedigree restored by a shop with unlimited $$$$.   Them big $$$ shop resto's are neat to see but it's not something the average Joe is going to be ever to achieve but does give us bottom feeders some idea's on how improve a little above average without a fancy 5th letter.   There's a place for all of them.

To each their own!!  If you pay the price you have every right to do it "your way".   That being said, I HATE trailer Queens done by a high end restoration shop for outrageous prices.

On the other hand I don't like a lot of "micky mouse" gimmicks on the cars like 20" wheels and everything under the hood chromed either.   But, i also don't give two good cents as to whether the guy is stupid enough to not put radials on the car, or has to have an imitation "original" battery...   NOTHING WRONG with NAPA, or Advance, or Walmart batteries and modern radials are the way to go.   Look...who are you kidding saying its all original when you put old style NEW Bias ply radials on the car?

I quit taking my car to car shows, as paying $20 registration and being held captive for 6 hours hoping to get another plastic trophy isn't my idea of a swell time.   So, for me, the old muscle cars nicely restored, but, with modern touches that go to cruise-ins is the way to go.

I think most people still love cars that don't have the pedigree. What was once a clone got softened to replica, and now They are called tributes which sounds quite a bit nicer. And when they cross auction blocks, the clones get fair money and the tv commentary is generally positive.

If you want a measure of just how acceptable modifications have become, take this test...do google image searches for flat hood BH Barracudas and JH Challengers. It will take you a VERY long time to find one. Even though the factory produced far more of them, I'd gamble that 95% of the remaining cars out there have been modified to look like RTs and Cudas. Look at cars for sale, many of them are base model cars dressed up with performance hoods, exhaust and stripes. Try finding an unmodified base model for sale. Hard to do. If you do, it will be an unrestored car in all likelihood and a future owner will modify it for sure! Hell, look at all the genuine RTs and Cudas that have been modified into hemi or six pack or pro touring cars.

Usually nothing bothers me about other peoples cars. As they are more than likely to be, on the road and running.I look at them for motivation and inspiration to continue working on my car. But what does grind my gears is the prices of used parts let alone new or NOS parts.
