It's 1970 and you walk in to a Mopar dealership.  You are ready to buy a new E-Body, but can't afford all the options you want so you have to pick one or the other.  Would you rather have a 4 speed and a rallye hood OR an Auto and Shaker hood?

CudaMoparRay

Would not have been a hard choice for me in that I have always preferred automatics and shakers.

Well I never learned how to drive an Auto so you know my answer
Besides Auto was a cost extra option , over the 4 speed

::)  As much as I  :inlove: love a Shaker... I am a 4-speed gal.   :burnout:

Wasn't an auto more expensive than a 4spd?

Arrg! I can't decide. Knowing how dumb and practical I usually am, I'd probably be rolling off the lot as cheaply as possible in a used '68 or '69 road runner... or a new 340 Duster.

If it has to be an E-body and money is tight, I'd be grabbing an A66 with a bulge hood and standard transmission.

Good question, when I was younger it would have been 4spd.
Now that I'm older, and having had several manual cars, I would definitely get the auto.
Loved my 71 LS5 4spd Corvette, but the shifting got old if you really drive the car and not just cruising occasionally.

I know some wil disagree, but you can't shift faster than an auto.

I think today just like it was back in 1970 it would be about a 50 /50 mix when it comes down to 4 speed versus auto.

Me too!  Except for the "gal" part.   :cooldance:

Had a 70 Challenger RT B7 with a 440-6 w an automatic and a factory shaker back in the day.  Loved that car. Didn't mind the automatic.
Later, I owned a 4 speed 383 Challenger RT vert which got me hooked on the manual trans.

Still love the stick cars, but I compromise these days with the automatic so the wife can drive the car.  Oh well!

Well, in Dec of 1969 (70's on the lot), I was 22 years old, fresh out of college and just married, and with a draft lottery number that made me safe i went to the local Dodge Dealer.   I had a beater car that was on its last legs so i needed a car and rather than buy a used Charger or used mustang or other used car, i found on a dealers lot the 70 Challenger that was in my tight budget.

It was a 70 in dark green metallic with tan interior.   Options almost none...it was the 225 slant six, with standard 3 sp manual on the floor, power steering, am radio, white walls, and wheel covers.   I believe it stickered for right around $3,100 and negotiated $300 off so bought it for $2,800.  And you know what?   Wish i still had it !!

Still lusting after my old 70 Challenger i found a 74 challenger that needed restoring and bought it.  It is now painted FC7 which was actually called Violet Metallic (cudas same color was called the infamous Plum Crazy) and white interior.   It has in it a 360 with hot cam (Mopar performance 508) Eddy RPM Air gap intake and eddy 600cfm 4 barrel, with headers, a  904 torqueflite auto, 3.23 suregrip, with power steering, power disc brakes, aftermarket am/fm stereo, console, and i engineered into it a power seat track for the wife.    I left off those "outrunner huge bumper guards", and put 72 bumper guards on the rear.

And i love it also..

A shaker hood is sweet but in my opinion the rally hood almost right there with but that pistol grip  so I would go with the four speed

727/N96 for sure!

rallye hoods look too much like the more common 340/383  :alan2cents:
