Would you rather have?

4 Speed trans & Rallye Hood

Yes it was. According to the "Salesman Pocket Guide" posted on Barry Washington's "Hamtramck Historical" website ...

For the auto and Shaker combo:
$227 - Heavy Duty Automatic (727)
$97 - Shaker Hood (only $97??  :looney:)
$324 - total for this combo

For the 4-speed and Rallye hood combo:
$194 - 4-speed
$0 - Rallye hood standard on RT
$194 - total for this combo  -  $130 cheaper than the auto and Shaker combo!!  :banana:

However, IIRC the A66 came standard with a flat hood didn't it?? I could not find in the Pocket Guide what the cost of the J54 Rallye Hood option would of been?? I'm sure it had to be significantly less than the Shaker's $97 ( :looney: ), but it would have bumped the combo price up to reduce the price difference between this combo and the auto Shaker combo.

I would go for the Shaker and auto, I do remember going with my dad to a Dodge dealership and seeing a row of e-bodies, I remember for some odd reason the crush can on the steering column, and of course the Shakers, btw, Dad bought a new Caprice that year :pullinghair: :pullinghair: Guess where it is now "CRUSHED"

Seeing NIKKI is Shaker/Auto I'll go with that. But she got a pistol grip just to mess with your head.  :Stirring:

I'd go 4-speed also - & thought this comparison would be simpler, but .....

since the huge majority of available OPTIONAL "SHAKER"s are 1970 440+6 'cuda & a 440+6 with a 4-speed required an AXLE package ......

dollar for dollar - OPTION for OPTION - any additional OPTIONS power steering, hi-impact paint, vinyl top, tinted glass, mirrors, etc. would be the same for either model

 :thinking:  Both at $4006 and $4007 that would be a super hard choice.  I do love the shaker, but the body lines are Challenger are hard to beat.  Not sure I could decide back in 1970.   :Thud:  Even today that would be a hard choice.

If you lived in the warmer states, I would think that air conditioning would be a priority so no shaker . . . since I have both, I would probably lean towards a rallye hood and 4 speed.  Shakers are nice and certainly desirable but  . . . a pain in the ass as far as I'm concerned.  (no you cannot have it)  Hardtop is a rallye hood with a 4 speed, convertible is a shaker with an auto and I enjoy driving both of them.  Certainly both are completely different . . . hardtop is manual steering with the convert having power steering.  Still a hard choice . . .

This is  no Brainer. Challenger. I have always preferred the looks of it.

As to the original question, 4 speed.
Someday I will have a J0b.

I would get the 4 speed/sport hood. I think the 4 speed/pistol grip looks, feeling and performance surpasses the looks and benefits of a shaker hood.

But i would choose the 'cuda....

Early A66 340 Challengers: some had a flat hood, but the rallye hood became standard sometime in August or early September, so some early 340 cars had a flat hood.

:iagree:  I would even sacrifice a 4 spd to have a Cuda with an auto if that was the only choice.  Much more of an aggressive look.   :banana:

4 spd all the way.  Actually not a big fan of the shaker hood.
