A guy called me last week asking if I knew anybody looking to buy a custom 1971 Barracuda resto mod type car. As you can see it has some personalized body mods and apparently it has some very expensive front and rear suspension mods, disc brakes etc...He will be listing it on eBay soon, but if anybody here might have interest in the car, PM me and I'll pass along his contact info....I think, don't quote me, he's looking to ask in the $25K-$30K CDN range. Apparently he started with a super solid 71 Barracuda. The car is local to me by 30mins or so.

Bet he has more in to it than he's asking...

The problem with custom cars is you are likely to detract from a wider potential buyers list given that tastes differ and what's cool for one may be disliked by another. The 71 is a case in point - personally I think a nice original body was wasted, but others may differ. If the guy put all that effort into a nice 71 restore there would be a lot more value there.

:iagree:
Mods like that reduce the fan base.
It's possible he picked up the cuda when they were close to valueless in the late 70's early eighties and figured he got it cheap and wanted to mess around with his fibreglassing skills?
Purchase price just has to take into account the removal of the 'flare stuff' and a repaint.  :alan2cents:

I think he may be okay on his price depending. He just might find that ONE guy and that if one guy can use the body as-is along with the aftermarket parts the dollars would look okay. On the other hand with the price of core Cuda's today if the tin underneath was halfway usable it may be cheaper than AMDing a rotten start for $10k buy in plus sheetmetal.
I wouldn't buy it but I could see the right guy maybe buying it.

Nice job as I respect the work done .  But not something I would drive or want

The body work reminds me of custom muscle cars from the  70's and early 80's. Bit dated to say the least.

They did a lot of that kind of work to van's back then.

I agree the style is very out-dated for today's "resto-mod" craze.....I would likely go the other route and build a late 70's -80's vibe street machine...add more graphics/pinstripes...large Crager SS's with L60 PolyGlas....a simple 440 with a lot of chrome...fairly stock interior....etc...

That bodywork doesn't do it for me.   :barf:

But, I do like the blue Gremlin in the background.

I'm with you guys: The running boards kill it for sure. The flares aren't really that great either as I too would be able to handle a Trans-am vibe but this is more of a Van vibe. It just doesn't belong on a Cuda for me.

I like cars with the original look but with upgraded drive trains and suspensions.  :burnout:
