As I mentioned in one of the PMs, the cover has completely separated from the binder back along the thinned "hinge" line.  Attached are several photos showing the detached front cover, and screenshots showing a long test developing in the same area on an eBay item priced at almost twice the amount, $521.30 w/Shpg vs $295 w/free Shpg

The darker smudged areas are from an old tape repair, but there are now various repair options available wide flexible hinge repair tape, as well as other methods of repair.  With the clear tear that can be seen in the photos, even small piano hinges could be installed (like some of the parts manuals have).
