Alternator and coil

I have a 70 Cuda.  383 engine automatic. If money is no object what the best alternator and coil to get.  I am 63 and just retired.  I just want to drive.

Would need to know more about the car (stock or modified, what ignition, any added electrical loads) to determine what is "best".

Stock, nothing exotic on the car, just a 383 automatic Cuda.

Can you describe your definition of "best" please?  If the car is all stock and if you prefer an OEM look, have you considered trying to get your originals rebuilt?

I would get your alternator rebuilt. The one you get at the parts store are usually junk.

The definition of best would mean based on your experience what is the best replacement alternator you have used.  I don't have the original, never did.  I am sick of replacing the stupid things.  The coil is shot as well so I need one of these as well.
So, I will restate the question, for a stock Cuda 383 automatic what would the best alternator and coil for the car if money where no object in your opinion and experience.

It might be best to call Dixie Restoration Parts to see if they have an original core they can restore for you.  Another option might be bmcuda  I'm assuming both shops use good quality internal replacement parts and may even be able to replace all the internals in your current one.

I agree with Rich G, so if money is no object I'd buy any reasonable quality parts store alternator just to get the car running, but would then try to hunt down an old original and have it rebuilt by someone like Jim Ridge or another reputable rebuilder.

I like things that generally look original, so have an older version of something like this in my 70 383 Cuda, but don't think mine is date coded.

I'm running mine in the stock configuration, mounted on the intake manifold.  Some will recommend mounting it remotely, like on the inner fender, so it runs cooler.  I haven't had any issues with mine on the intake, but admittedly am not driving this car very extensively.

I'm pretty happy with my Powermaster alternators. I've got one I've been using since the mid 90s that, knock on wood, has been working flawlessly since then through multiple cars.  They offer round back, square back, single or dual pulley, oem lead wire or single wire, numerous different am ratings, natural finish like stock, chrome, or powder coated frames.

Look up what you want on their website and order from them or get the part number and order through Summit. No big savings from one over the other.

Coils and ballasts need to be complimentary matched. I've had basic, stock style, oil filled coils that have lasted for decades. Had others that crapped out in a few years. Same with some of the bigger brand name high performance units. Although Holley brands now owns Accel, Mallory, and MSD.  Jacobs doesn't exist any more. I'm not familiar with Pertronix or other recent (within the last 25 years) that have come out on the market.
