Ditching the cigarette lighter for a USB port with a built-in voltmeter.
Then I'm going to modify the ashtray to hold my cell phone.

The LED display is perfect.
Not obnoxiously bright, not too dim.
Close it and none the wiser.

Great idea.  I've seen the volt gauges that plug into the cigarette lighter port before...but none with the USBs.

On a similar note...
I had my stock radio upgraded by Wards.  They installed all new internals into the stock case and added RCA jacks to the back.  I found a USB female to RCA adapter that I thought MIGHT work to play music from a memory stick.  I've got a memory stick with my entire CD library on it in my truck.  It would be cool to be able to do that in our classics.  I don't know if that will work though.  There would be no way to scroll through the different artists/playlists.

Nice job on the volt gauge!  Is the lighter still connected to full time 12v or did you rewire it to only have power with the key on?

I have just a voltmeter plugged into mine. I don't want to lose the cig port however, I need it to charge my tuning laptop.

Just get a USB power cord that fits the laptop.

I'm thinking this so I don't have to do any more wiring and it's simple but I'd love to have the 2nd USB port

That's about all I have and you get to keep the cig lighter, if needed.

I set one of these up last weekend (Thanks Chris!). Battery to fuse to switch to USB port. Now I can charge my phone on the go, or parked without keying the ACC. Works like a charm!  ;)
