Hi everyone I realized my 70 satellite with a 383 still has points and I've never dealt with them but I'm not reading anything good other than "upgrade your mopar to so and so"

Which electronic ignition would you recommend and also any tips on the install would be appreciated.

Luckily my challenger has electronic ignition

Thanks in advance

Just to warn you, this will kind of be like 'what oil should i use"? lol. Everybody has their preferences.
I'm partial to the MSD 6 I have on my car. It made a huge (said like Trump..lol) difference in bottom end grunt for my setup.
I run it with a Mopar Performance dizzy.

:iagree:

Trying to keep it as OEM stock looking as possible without using points?
Don't care about OEM looks and want to get rid of points, ballast resistor etc.?
Other goals or future mods that could influence choices (for example EFI conversion)?

Lots of options, prices and opinions out there.

Thanks everyone for the info

I'm looking to replace the points system for time, I'm also not too familiar with them,  to avoid buying the auto zone brand that everyone says is bad and to eliminate the need to check the car every 8k miles and replace

The car is stock except for the headers and mufflers that will eventually come off because I prefer manifolds but aside that the cars stock and it will stay that way. 383 4 barrel that I just want to run right.

Looking for most reliable and easiest option to install the budget 100-300?  I see most systems are about 150-250 also I would prefer that I can get over the counter parts if something goes bad

This is probably going be the easiest to install and land in your price range. Will definitely be a improvement over what you currently have.

Another popular upgrade based on your description is an HEI conversion.
Low cost alternative. You can eliminate the ballast resistor and avoid mounting a control box on your firewall.

If I wasn't installing a Holly Sniper on my Barracuda this is the route I would be going.

After upgrading the stock coil, wires, cap and rotor the stock ignition still seemed lackluster. I was planning on going the designed2drive route.. went as far to buy the kit. Still have it sitting in the box with my stock dizzy.

I'll be the outlier for the purists here.. I went with a straight up Chebby style HEI dizzy instead. The idle and performance difference was night and day right out of the box. I picked mine up on Ebay for $150 and it came with a decent set of wires. I have since updated the module and coil with Petronix Flamethrower 3 and could not be happier. If anything goes wrong... you'll never have issues getting replacement parts to get you going again. Everyone and their brother sells that GM style HEI stuff.... and usually cheap.  DUI makes a nice performance model you can see here: https://performancedistributors.com/product/dodge-big-block-dui-distributor/ Sure you could find similar more cost effective models with a quick search. GL either way you go.

The factory type conversion is the way to go. It was designed by the Factory for your car..
Bolt on, trouble free and the factory replacement parts are everywhere. And someone doesn't have to match up another brands etc...
Put an extra ecm and ballast in your tool box. Covers 99% of any possible problems on the road. Very inexpensive.

He wants to eliminate points. This upgrade is for an electronic distributor. Would still need a way to trigger the HEI module....Not the solution he is looking for...

Yes, I know he would need an electronic distributor. Never said anything about not needing one.
Most of the other suggestions also involve converting to an electronic distributor....
If he wants to retain his original distributor, then an Ignitor from Pertronix would be another way to go.
