Hot Coil and wiring problem.

Hot Coil and wiring problem.
I have a 1970 Cuda 440.

I replaced the Alternator to a Tuff Stuff Alternator that just needs the one wire for the output. I have the Charging Bypass cable from that output to the Starter Relay.  The wiring from the Buckhead is disconnected. I'm using a Mopar electronic ignition setup.

I have a problem with the coil being so hot that it burns my fingers. I replaced the coil with a Pertronix Flame-Thrower Ignition Coil, 1.5 ohms. It still gets very hot.

I believe my problem is because the field wires are not connected. The Dark Green wire from the Voltage Regulator to one of the Field connections is not connected to the alternator.  I think this might be the problem because it does not drop voltage after cranking.

Anyone have suggestions as to what I should do?

I worked on the engine bay and I think I made some progress.
I cleaned up the ground connections on the VR and the Control Box.
I took the wires on the VR and cleaned them. The engine bay wiring and the dash wiring harness are both less than a year old.
I added a ground wire from the engine to the firewall.
I added a stronger carburetor return spring.
I checked all the wiring I could get to.
I checked the voltage on the + wire of the coil. The voltage is around 11 volts.
I measured the running voltage on the battery and it is 14.5 volts.
The coil is hot but not too much.
I have new parts coming in tomorrow and I will test more with them.

Bullitt-

  Assuming this is a stock system I would expect to see 11-volts or better at the coil while cranking but not in the run position that would route power through the ballast resistor which drops voltage to around 7-volts.

Summit just dropped off my order.
I think I fixed it with a new Voltage Regulator. The voltage on the coil dropped from 11V to 9.5V.
I ohmed both and the new one had less ohms.

If you are running a 1 wire at the voltage reg has to be internal in the alt , the one on the firewall is not needed .
