Installing new dome light switches

I'm replacing my switches.  I'm believing the new ones "self adjust" by the brass barrel sliding into the switch body when the door is closed on them for the first time.  Am I seeing this correctly?   Or did I buy the wrong switches?  It seems like denting the door with one of these would be a really bad idea.

Yes they self adjust. I put them in my car.

I always put a piece of tape or two where the switch will make contact for the adjustment process to keep the paint damage to a minimum..Close it slowly for the initial adjustment..
