I vote for a Dixie horn.
Patched mine as well. Utilized same plastic from scrap part. Made a plug slightly smaller. Cut up slivers of same material and melted them with acetone to make glue. Puddied it in. Had to do several rounds to get proper build up. Sanded flat. Sprayed it with a very light dusting with textured paint. And painted to match. Think final paint was SEM black. Texture is slightly more than factory but it hid what I started with well.

Leave the switch as a conversation piece? When asked about it------use whatever explanation suits you at the time. Some good ideas above.
