Also, as mentioned earlier, tachometer will have to come out through the front of the cluster if you are not removing the entire assembly.

Also as mentioned, separate switch panel ground wire is highly recommended!

Thanks, those are great pictures Claudia.  :bigthumb:

I crawled under the dash yesterday to survey....the back of the tach is right above the column.  Pretty tough to get to that while the cluster is in.  My plan is to only rebuild/upgrade the tach  (right now I don't have the budget to do all the gauges, thankfully the rest do work).   I can see why the gauge cluster has to come out to get to it.

Is this the same technique when removing and replacing the whole dash? You would Lower column, Pull cluster out, remove dash, replace dash, replace cluster, then connect column? Or can the cluster stay in and you pull the whole dash out with it?

The dash can come out in one piece. No need to remove the gauges. Lot of good previous discussions on dash removal/assembly on our site. Just do a search and you should find several.

:iagree: If you are needing to remove the dashboard, it will be much easier to just pull the entire dashboard as a complete assembly . . . there is no real need to pull the cluster first.

Thanks again for all the tips

I had some time Saturday and got to work. Took about 1.5 - 2 hours taking my time.  First thing that fought me was the chrome adjuster for the clock.  That was really difficult to get off.

Found out why the tach wasn't working. One of the posts on the back could wobble appearing to be broken on the inside

Decided to send the whole gauge cluster out to Redline to test and go from there.  They said about 3 weeks if they were to rebuild all the gauges.

That was the best way to do it, Now all the gauge's will be sorted out. You may want to consider having the amp gauge converted to volts wile it there.  :alan2cents:

I definately want to switch over to a Volt gauge.  Did the wiring change when you switched over then?
