Tail light issues

Are you making these test with the car running or off? My cars turn signals won't flash on just the battery but work fine with motor running and the alternator charging the system.

I have a new headlight harness and will Install it in two weeks. I think i will remove all the front lights and check for wrong grounding..as far as i understand the front lights and signals dont ground at the body but only over the grd wire to the radiator right?
When i disconnect the lights from the front harness it doesnt change anything. The flasher relay still nearly does nothing then...i changed the relays the second time for testing now.

The front turn signal housings do not have a separate ground , they ground through the housing , the socket is only crimped into the housing & often has corrosion between the socket & housing , the best way to fix this it to take a pin punch & punch through the lip at the edge of the socket so they ground again or attach a separate ground wire from the socket , Not the housing !

I have two perfect appearing front turn signal housings, but electrically, non-functional.
With a separate ground, they are fine.

I bought the M&H front harness but it has the female bullet type connectors for the fender mounted turn signals.
Since my car is a R/T it never had the fender signals.
Should i leave the connectors like they are or would it be better to cut them and connect the wires directly..?
I think it doesnt matter but just to make sure..

I would use some di-electic grease & use the connectors , not sure why you would want to cut them off ?

You are right. I did not cut them and filled them with grease.


And i finally found the source of my problems!
It was the directional switch.
Since its an aftermarket one i am thinking about removing it.
Due to that am looking for a functional 1970 e-body switch with the grove for the A01 key light in the hazard switch.
Please let me know if you have something!

That would do it !!
I doubt you will locate an original switch , someone like @Slotts might be rebuilding originals

Yes , 70 was a 1 year only too , originals were used up decades ago

Rare? Oh it gets worse with the 70 only turn signal switches. The E body and B body are completely different, too. It is not just the triangle on the knob, but the circuit board for the hazard switch is mirror imaged. The E body pulled out and the B body pushed in to turn on the hazards.

Yes, they are identical. The part number for the E body version is 2947509.

EDIT: I made a mistake (insert  :sorry: ) with the part number that is showing above. These are the correct numbers:

The 70 E body version part number - 2947905
The 70 B body version part number - 2947509
