What else should I replace under the hood...

Hey all,

I have a '71 Cuda 383 auto that is mostly original.  Engine has never been out of the car.  Recently, one of my motor mounts broke and since I have the car up on jack stands to replace the mounts, I figured might as well fix other stuff in the process.  One thing I did was order a new engine wiring harness from YearOne.  I had noticed that my wiring had some melted wires etc, so time to replace.  My question is, are there other electrical components in the engine compartment that I should replace?  I do plan to do the alternator/Ammeter disconnect/bypass as suggested and have purchased a Pertronix Ignitor to upgrade the distributor.

Thanks for the help.

Here is another suggestion for harness replacements, they have nice products.

The best thing you can do for little money is while you are servicing the harness, clean and grease( die-lectric grease) all grounds and connection/connectors. in the entire car. This has always been the most problematic thing about the old cars...electrical gremlins. Especially at the firewall junction block.

You might want to consider adding relays for low and high beam headlights to further reduce the electric load going through the firewall connection.  Check with member @crackedback who makes and sells "plug and play" setups for this.

Thanks for the tag.

I build relay kits specific for our mopars.

Also build the wire around from alternator to starter relay using 6 or 8GA wire with a fusible link.  All clean setups that hide easily win your engine compartment.

You want to get as much load off the bulkhead connector charge line as you can.
