Wiper and Dimmer Knobs

Im trying to get the wiper and dimmer knobs off the shafts so I can clean them up and
paint the arrows on them.  How do they come off?  I tried pulling them but Its not working
and I don't want to brake them. It's a 1970 Cuda with the standard dash.

They just pull off, no special tricks, although I've had some that needed to be pried off, they were so siezed on there

Ok thanks for the fast reply. I will try again pulling or prying them off.
I just wanted to ask before I broke them.

There is a metal spring steel blade that presses on the posts flat face.
When pulling try and rock (gently) with the flat face. Not back and forth against it.
