Does anyone know if the choke thermostat for a big block w/AVS carb is the same as one for a Holley carb?  I am working on a 1970 Challenger R/T ragtop, and have a restored, correct Holley carb, but can't seem to find a choke thermostat listed for the Holley. Only for the AVS.

I have some of those chokes.  They are NORS, correct in every way except not the factory original markings.  I sell them for $25.00 each.  They are the same for most Holley carbs about 1967-1972.

Nice - here's a pic of an original Holley choke for comparison. Originals are pricey like everything else these days.

I can't speak to any differences in the AVS thermostat, but the ones for Holleys had a cut out in the rear corner for I believe clearancing the vacuum secondary kickdown pod. You can just make that out in EV2RTSE pic above.

I can speak a little about their differences.  I'm experienced with the choke assemblies on a 1970-71 big block 383/440 engine,  be it low performance or high, whether it came with a Holley or Carter 4-barrel.  Regarding the OEM-issued choke assemblies, the Carter assembly looks very much like the Holley, with a few exceptions.

#1 the rod protruding up from the assembly is straight on the Holley, but has a bend on the Carter.  Both turn inward toward the carb.

#2 they are stamped differently.  The Holley may bear the "Holley" logo, and they each bear a stamp in large 1/4-inch high numbers bearing the last 2-digits of the Chrysler Dealer Part Book part number.  The 1970 Barracuda (engine painted orange) 440-4 HP (for example) has a Carter with a choke assembly #2951 653, and bears a "53" stamped on the housing.  The C-body 440-4 (engine painted blue) has a Holley with choke assembly #2946 539, and bears a "39" stamped in its housing.

#3 as far s I can tell, the bimetal spring, and other parts within the bell housing are the same.

That notch was introduced in the 1971 production year, 1970 Holley chokes have no notch, and ALL chokes associated with Holley carbs. have the word Holley stamped into them. Needless to say, a Holley carb. will always have a corresponding Holley choke to go with it.
