I'm looking into my options for a clutch fan for my 70 Challenger with a 383 and I've seen mentions of the Mopar 5 blade fans from the 80's.  From what I can tell the part number of the fan is 4140063 and I think it's 18" diameter.

Does anyone have experience with this setup, and is there any reason it wouldn't work?  Would there be any fitment issue with the stock shroud?  Is there an ideal clutch height, Hayden seems to make a few varieties so obviously I'd want to avoid one that's too tall for this fan.

Thanks!

That's exactly what my brother did with his car, 70 383 R/T Challenger, original 22" radiator and shroud. I looked back at a few pics I have and came up with this one, looking at the Hayden catalog it seems to be the 2706 clutch. He went with a 3 row core when the radiator was restored and the car runs cool with no issues.

Did 383s without AC get the clutch too?

That's good to hear, thanks for the info!  I've got the 22" rad as well.

On the 22" radiator cars IIRC there was no clutch. If you stepped up to something with a 26" rad like with a 383 with the 3.91 axle package then I believe you got a clutch.

Hmmm, found my pdf parts manual.  I think I should have it.  I do have a '70 383 non AC car with 22 inch rad too.  Have a look at the page and tell me if I'm wrong that I should have the 070 clutch.

Here's another thread to take a look at-

Note no provision for a clutch on this fan it bolts to a spacer.

Edit: The 070 clutch is what you'd get with an axle package, along with the 216 fan which has the provision for the clutch.

I've got the 7 inch fan and that spacer too on mine.  But it looks like I also have an inch and a half gap that I'm guessing that clutch would help fill.
