I know this has been discussed before and I may have even brought it up in the past in different threads.

FORGET the cool factor !!!    Is a 6 packs performance worth the expense and maintenance hassles as compared to a dialed in carb ?

RUNCHARGER

Not really. They work well when dialed in but with a modern 4 barrel on a modern manifold you can achieve even better results and easier.

Unless it is a v code car I would not waste the money.IMO

Not true at all, that is strictly  :deadhorse:
The same car with a six pak will outrun the 4bbbl car, hands down.
The tuning is not rocket science, it's just no one want to follow the process for success

If you have never owned or drove a properly set up six pak car you are clueless

To me the coolness factor is enough.  My Roadrunner is a V code and, even though it's taken me awhile to get them setup properly, is a real nice cruiser than is as wild as I need it to be when you get into the secondaries.

Only advice, if you don't have equipment already, just buy them brand new from Holley.  Most of my problems dealt with trying to us OE carbs that had forty years of modifications.  Date stamps and part #s be damned if it's not originally a six pack car.

I have had several of both, always 440's.

Six packs are really cool, sort of fun and challenging to tune, a great wow factor.

But...you can dial in a 440 with a 4 bbl and just forget it.   They pull almost as strong and are easy to live with.

Sort of depends what you want to do with it.   If you just like to cruise, the 4bbl is probably best.    If you drive hard, or like to do shows or stuff like that, then the 6bbl may be a good choice.   A well tuned 6bbl is pretty impressive when the outer carbs first kick in!

Just be prepared to learn a lot about how to tune them, and a lot of trial and error!!

If my car had one, I wouldn't take it off either. They're cool.
But  unless you have an original V code, they aren't worth it from a strictly performance/expense standpoint.

I see here some opinions vary but lean to the no side. Here's what I can tell from my experience. I wanted one for the cool factor and I figured at a minimum it would run at least as good as my current 4 barrel. I built a 6 barrel set up with all the goodies. Billet metering blocks with changeable jets for the outboard carbs, etc and spent a fortune doing it. I figure I have a little over $4500 in the set up doing everything myself. Spent countless hours really dialing them in and they ran perfect. Problem I was having with a manual trans would probably be fine with a auto trans. When I would get the outboard carbs to open quick enough with the lighter springs they wouldn't close quick enough between shifts. When I set them where they closed fast enough they took to long to open. So for my application and my experience a really nice single 4 worked best for me. My 6 barrel is sitting the shelf and my car has a much broader power band with a 4 barrel. That 6 barrel would really make power on the big end. Maybe... Or it just may have felt that way due to the lag on the bottom end. So there it is, take it or leave it.

I always wondered about the fuel distribution on six packs while cruising on just the centre 2 bbl. In my mind you should be able to get some good fuel mileage out of six pack if your not hammering on it?

These are observations from someone who has never messed with one.

Honestly, for the price, I would get an EFI set up and hide it under a 6 pack air cleaner before I ever considered adding a real six pack. Might be about the same price but the driveability and ability to have multiple tunes just ready at the push of a couple of buttons would be amazing.
Someday I will have a J0b.

Fuel mileage definitely improved with the 6 barrel cruising around. Went from about 10 mpg average to 15 mpg.

First of all we don't insult people here. Secondly I've owned quite a few six packs, Thirdly if you've ever driven a properly setup car with a new carb (not some 50 year old OEM carb) on a new manifold (not some 50 year old OEM manifold) you'll realize you can spend your money a lot better than 3 carbs.

I agree compared to the stock 4 barrel on a stock engine the six barrel should get better fuel mileage and run better but I was comparing it to a new 4 barrel setup. If you want something to run good and you have the cash for a six pack setup and don't care about originality FI is the way to go.

Yeah I have a clue.

I wouldn't install a Six Pack setup unless it was an original V code car, old, complicated technology, too many better options these days.

I spent quite a bit of time tuning the Six Pack on my wife's car.
Lots of carbs, fuel lines and linkages to get in the way.
I've used aftermarket tuning tools and feel the car runs very good.
Wow factor I guess although all the glory is covered by the air cleaner.
I see a fuel injection conversion coming soon, I've been researching setups.

I have a Holley 4150 750 on my 440 powered Challenger.
The single carb is so much easier to tune and work on especially with modifications like cams, headers, etc.
Performance is as good if not better than the Six Pack  :alan2cents:

I have another complete Six Pack setup I was going to install on my car but I've decided to stick with my single 4 barrel.

My opinion is No , wit modern carbs & intakes you will make more power & better drivability runnin a 4bbl .
For $4500 you can build a multiport EFI usin 4 coils & crank trijjer
