A833 od installed and won’t shift? Normal ?

Hi there everyone
So the a833 is in, fluids in and I tried firing car up but need fuel. I didn't have the tome to get gas so o wasn't able to start it but while sitting in the car I noticed it doesn't shift gears it only shifts up and down no reverse or other gears.

Is this normal ?
Like I said it hasn't been fired up yet and does have fluid
Drive shafts in but no run time.

Did you put an alignment pin through the shift head when you connected the shift rods?   Sounds like your gears are fighting each other????

Also, try shifting with the clutch pedal pressed in to make sure the tranny it's fully released from the engine.   I've had to do this to sometimes when the car is parked on an incline.

It was assembled when I received it I just removed the rods to install in the car then assembled back to the way I received it

A pin goes through this hole to hold the shifter arms in "neutral" while you adjust the link rods. Transmission arms need to be in "neutral" too......

There's some good info in the thread below from member @Shane Kelley on the alignment pin.  You can use a drill bit or Allen wrench that fits snug in the shift head hole, but it may have to be shortened to be able to maneuver it in place under the transmission hump.   Also note the comments about the OD trans having the 3/4 shift lever flipped compared to a non-OD transmission.

I had to drop my OD transmission earlier this year to deal with a throw-out bearing issue and took a video of the rod placement at the so I put it back together correctly.  PM me a email address and I'll send you a copy of it if you're interested.

I would also make sure all the rods and levers are installed correctly, just because you received it with them installed doesn't mean they were installed correctly.

 The shift levers on the OD 833 trans are different than the standard 833.The standard shift rods are not clocked right for the OD tranny.The levers are clocked different for each trans.I went thru this and got so frustrated I bought the correct non OD trans for my 70 Cuda.I was new to this hobby when I bought the OD tranny for cheap after the guy said it would work.I know some people on the forum were told you can bend the rods to make it work.I tried and gave up and bought a new tranny.That was 13 years ago.

If possible send the video. I double checked the bearing before the install and I'm pretty sure it seemed right because I know it attached a certain way with the clips onto the fork email is
