Went out to the garage to continue tuning on my carb, just striped a bowl screw... :bricks:

I swear I am cursed.

Oh well,  :takemymoney:  Looking for new carb recommendations.

Most of us can relate to your dilemma. Take a deep breath, let out and then continue the journey. Only those who do nothing have nothing happen to them. :)

Holley? Helicoil it? I have a couple 750cfm's here if you need?

Edelbrock 1406 was recommended for my bored/cammed etc 318. I currently have a Holley 1460 and am seriously thinking of changing it. Both are 600CFM.

Sounds like a great reason to go to a Holley Terminator X EFI setup. All great things start with a small step.

@Jay Bee @Cudajason I have a 600 cfm Edelbrock if you're interested.

I don't know if the Terminator is the way to go, maybe, but seriously consider EFI. I know if my carb became fubar, it would be replaced with EFI.
If EFI is not in the cards, I am extremely happy with my Quick Fuel. Would recommend.

I vote for EFI. The thing you missed with a carb is may be the sound secondary comes on.

For me...EFI is new car stuff...   if i wanted a new car...

Plus yes, the sound of a wide open throttle on a carb is awesome...not to mention...a good new Edlebrock runs around $350, and an EFI setup when all is said and done runs at least $2,500 and up...   Plus i have read many horror stories about EFI on the old engines...
Easy decision to stay with the old school carb...

Summit Racing has Edelbrock 750 CFM carbs for $450-600.

Entrypoint for EFI is less than that. For $2,500 you would also have a new ignition system that is timing controlled.
The EFI horror stories are commonly due to either poor installation or a car that has other underlying issues.
There are pros and cons to both EFI and carbs. I've had a good experence with going EFI on one of my cars.

EFI and carb  make similar power with a slight advantage to carb at WOT.

Advantage of EFI is part throttle driveability and start up ease.  It also makes large cams and high compression easier to deal with by being able to better control fuel mixing and ignition.

I'm still using a carb but it does take some time/effort to dial them in to work great.

Thanks for all the offers to help folks, that is the kind of stuff that makes this board great.

I ordered a ProForm carb body from summit, pretty reasonable really, and gives me a chance to upgrade the carb to a HP style, no choke horn etc. on the cheap.

We will see how it goes.
