Since I have the intake off (340) Is there anything I should inspect or look for with the pushrods and lifters etc.?

if you pull out ech lifter you can look & the bottom & make sure all of them are rotating properly .

Is it a good idea to also soak them in cleaner and manually pump them to cleanse while you have access ?   I've always wondered about it.

if you crank the engine over you can watch to be sure all are rotating , I would not bother trying to clean & flush them out

Ahh the can of worms. Where do you stop!

Can of worms is right . With my luck if I remove a lifter I will drop it somewhere it does not belong.

Just inspect for obviuos potential problems. Debris, metal, excessive wear patterns, rubbing parts. Anything that doesn't look "normal" Of course if you are not inside of these engines much, it is hard to know what normal is. Just look for things that get your attention and then check back. The old saying of " if it ain't broke, don't fix it" might apply here. Just make sure everything is clean before you put it back together. Good to have a Service Manual. Free downloads are available if you don't have one.  :tool:
