Hello everyone, a friend of me has been selling a complete 4-speed kit for E-body and I couldn't resist to buy it... I always wanted a 4-speed Challenger but couldn't afford to get a factory one, and the 727 in my car needed to be rebuilt. In Europe it's not every day that you find such deals for Mopars, so here is what I bought :

4-speed shifter and linkage
Passon performance A833 transmission
Kesler bellhousing
McLeod reinforced clutch
Flywheel
And many other small parts

Everything in good shape and has only 3500 miles.

My friend tells me the only things I will need to add are :
  - the Z-bar
  - 4 speed tunnel hump

So here I am ! New four speed project Mopar guy in France :) We are going to work on this with my step father who knows well muscle cars.

Do you think this is a cool combo to put behind my stock 383 ?

Are there some "traps" to avoid for this kind of project ? I am going to read as much as I can on the subject right now.

Some pics attached.

Make sure the bellhousing is for a big block, you will also need new carpet.

Sly

yes it is :) It was in a 512 ci powered Cuda, now the guy wants to put it a new gen Hemi with Viper trans I guess :)
My carpet needed to be changed, it's time now !  :ohyeah:

Topcat

Borg & Beck 3 finger clutch is what I would use instead.

Nice score.  :slapme5:

HEMICUDA

Off the top of my head from what I see you will also need:
All from Brewers Performance.  Toughest part will be welding the "Z" bar bracket to the frame rail.

Great find!!!!  Maybe @Chryco Psycho  can chime in or anyone else that might know, but I think you leave the large pedal spring off in some cases depending on what clutch you use?

Thank you, now I know what I will be needing, my friend told me he has more parts that he is gathering right now but didn't picture.

Nice score! Looks like it has a hyd clutch also?

I saw that hydraulic hose sticking out as well.  So I think that there are more parts in the pictures than you need.  If you are going hydraulic...then you won't need a lot of the z-bar and frame mount stuff.  If you are going mechanical, then you won't need the hydraulic slave cylinder.

Don't forget to get:
Pilot bushing
flywheel inspection cover
reverse light wiring harness, and dash illuminator
steering column lock out hardware
Clutch safety switch
If you have a console...Console plate / console modification template.

Also just noticed you have a 383/auto.  You will need to determine whether your crankshaft has been finish machined to accept the stock manual transmission pilot bushing.  If it has, then you can use OEM parts.  If not, then you will have to use aftermarket conversion parts to accommodate the pilot.  This may include cutting an inch off of the "new" 4 speed input shaft...google "mopar 383 pilot bushing"

My instructions that came with the hydraulic set up said to remove the big spring.

Not that I had a chance to try it lol

RUNCHARGER

Nice: I did the same to Greg's Cuda last year. One thing I will suggest is bonding the floor hump onto the floor. No welding and the adhesive is a sealer as well.

I am not a fan of diaphragm clutches they can stay inverted allowing the engine to over rev ,they also do not work well with the pedal travel as the ratio is different . SoIagree,I would also use  3 finger B&B/Long type clutch
With the 3 finger clutch you need the overcenter spring on the pedal , with diaphragm type you do not
