Glad the problem is resolved but the mystery remains.
Any theory on why the Moog 317 does not work and the SKF UJ317 does?
Manufacturing error?

Packaging/ labeling error would be my guess.... Saw this many times in the appliance parts business.
Thing that boggles my mind is it happening to two different part numbers simultaneously 317 & 315G both of which are listed to fit 7260

I can't be the only one that has come across this before....the caliper doesn't lie, the MOOG ones are wider than the original and wider than the SKF :dunno: yet they are all supposed to be 7260 U joints :looney:
I've taught you everything you know....but I haven't taught you everything I know....

Hats off to member jetmeck as it seems that Alan was pulling his hair out trying to sort this out!  :bigthumb:

Checked the new Moog 315G I just received from Rock Auto using my inexpensive dial caliper, pressing the caps in finger tight.

A - 2.20 inches (clip groove inside edges)
B - 3.26 inches OAL width
C - 1.08 inches cap diameter

The width of the body with the caps removed was 1.575 one cross and 1.580" on the other

Glad to see this thread because it may be a year or more before I actually get to the driveshaft and u-joints; I'm buying parts defensively but definitely restarted that too late to avoid both cheap chinese caca and growing QA problems...
