Can anyone confirm a 1970-71 cuda driveshaft is 3.25 43185 727/833 8-3/4 340 Barracuda

anlauto

Cuda with an 8 3/4 should be 43.6" long . :alan2cents:

Here is some information that should heip.
Driveshafts are measured from the center to center on each u joint cap for the length.

I am sure you know the B is a Cuda and J is a challenger.

On the last charts posted it only has 1970 for a 340. I'm assuming 71 would be the same? The one I posted it said the 43.185 was for the 71 and ththe 43.6 was the 1970. I cant see them being different. The 43.6 seems to be correct

I am not sure why there are all these different length driveshafts.I checked 3 different dealer parts books and I come up with the same information. We have 43.85" 43.79" 43.60" length driveshafts which would be the difference of .250" ( 1/4") from the shortest to the longest one. I myself don't think that would make that  big a difference and I would use anyone of the three. I don't know why? the wheelbase is the same on all the Cuda's .These are all the 7290  2 5/8 u joint driveshafts list for the cuda's.

I would think 1 driveshaft could have been used in all these applications.

You are correct they are close enough the slip yoke would take up that 1/4" Thank you for the info. It was exactly what I needed

Shoooter

I had my driveshaft shortened and when Iwent to pick it up the weld was garbage.  I asked for it to be cleaned up and they ended up cutting it of and redoing it. Now it is short. It measured 43.3 instead of the 43.6. About 5/16 short.  Will this be a problem? Are all the slip yokes for a a833 the same? Mine doesnt have splines for the first inch and a half.

Wait, I see different numbers for the same engine.
1970 challenger 318 is both listed as 45.85" and 49.95" with the 727.
1970 challenger 340 has 45.85 for all transmission with a 2 bbl and 45.79 with a 727 and unspecified carb (guessing 4 bbl)

Why would the carb matter? I take it some transmissions take a range? hmmmm
