I'm looking at the MMC Detroit Guide to Fasteners .... book and am a bit confused and hoped someone might be able to straighten me out. I need a couple bolts to connect the 727 tranny to the 340 engine. Should be simple enough. Hoever I found several entries and some of them don't make sense.

Section 4.1 item 7 lists Automatic Transmission to Engine Mounting bolts for small block. 10 bolts listed. 6 for mating engine to tranny, then 2 for "brace to transmission" left and right side as well as 2 for "brace to engine". I recall having 2 braces but I can't find them and I can't seem to find any reference photos on the net, but there are two in the book but you can't see where they are. In any case it seems like a few too many bolts unless you count the starter bolts and or ignore the holes in the tranny inspection plate. The top bolts and brace to engine are 3/8 with 16 teeth while the rest are 7/16 with 14 teeth

But then on   Section 4.1 item 37 it lists Small Block engine to Transmission support brackets mounting fasteners. It lists 4 for the tranny and 4 for the engine. The engine is 7/16 with 20 teeth and the tranny bolts are 3/8 with 16 teeth.

My thought is the second section is a duplicate and the quantity should be 2 not 4 and the 7/16 teeth should be 14 not 20. Can any one shed some light? Also, how many bolts? 4 up top, 2 for starter, 2 for a brace and 3 for the inspection plate? Does that sound about right?

 You should have 4 - 3/8 / 16 bolts up top & the 2 - 7/16 coarse bolts in the bottom corners
The starter used a 7/16 coarse stud into the trans but a fine thread nut on the other end on top with a 7/16 coarse bolt at the bottom .
Inspection cover was 3 -4 1/4 bolts .

Yeah, I am trying to avoid that as much as possible. Buying a couple bolts isn't a big deal, but I got a slew to get. Each kit any where from $10-$30 plus shipping adds up. LOL. So gonna check out the swap meet this weekend and pickup what I can then order the rest.
