Engine/Trans Install Methods...Lets see yours

Planning ahead for my 440/727 re-installation. Ideally I want to raise the front of the car and come in from underneath with engine/trans and K frame bolted together, but I don't have a lift. I have multiple means of lifting the front of the car, but am a tad nervous of mishaps. I'd like to see some pictures of different techniques along with suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I have used jack stand under the front of the leaf springs & used the weight of the diff to counter balance , then I can lift the front end by hand , using my legs of course , block the body up , roll the K frame & engine / trans under & lower the body back down by hand .

I used an extra set of bumper brackets to lift the front of my Challenger.


I made some lifting bars out of 1/4" angle iron for my Dart.  I initially used 1/8" angle but didn't like the flex I saw with the engine weight on them.  1/4" thickness is overkill if you are lifting just the body.  Better too thick then too thin though.

All feedbacks are exactly what I was looking for, mainly to see if my ideas were leading me into trouble. I even have the extra set of bumper brackets and/or plenty of 3"x1/4" angle around. The mention of the diff being a good counter balance hadn't dawned on me, but is perfectly logical. I did use the front frame rails in hoisting the car onto my shop cart, so good suggestion there as well. I have a great shop area, I just didn't order the building with high enough ceilings (it's 10'). Thanks guys!

I have lost count on how many I have installed but I have never used a hoist or engine hoist to lift the body
