Fuel filter location?

Can someone please tell me the location the factory placed the inline fuel filter?  I have an aftermarket steel fuel line that is supposed to match OEM that is a single line from pump to carb, yet my ('72) parts book shows a illustration with the filter between the pump and carb.  When we bought the car the filter was down on the frame rail and before the pump.

Thanks.

For the 1970 340 (and 318) it was just before the carb-

:iagree: I think it should be roughly in the same place as the 1970 shown :alan2cents:

On my 73 318 it's down low under the alternator.  The main line isn't in place yet in this picture but you can see the lower U shaped line attached to the pump.  The filter attaches right to that U shaped line under the alternator.  I'm not sure if 340's in 72 used the same filter location or not.

@Burdar Interesting... I will have to take another look now...  It is "rubber" from the main line to the pump though right?
I see a "holder" for the heater hoses... the '73 had that or is that a add-on preference of yours?  Mine did not and I thought it was for big blocks, factory anyway.

Thanks

@Mrbill426  Might want to hold off for a definitive 1972 answer, as there clearly was a transition between 1970 and 1974!

Looking at Inline Tubes offering the '72 looks more like the '70 than the '73

Fuel pump...U shaped hard line...rubber hose...fuel filter...rubber hose...main line to carb

The heater hose bracket is stock.  The big blocks used a differently shaped one then the small blocks.

Here's a photo of my fuel filter position on my 71 Challenger 340. I don't know if the shaker makes a difference. The metal fuel lines are original.

A few more photos of fuel pump and fuel line. The screw type clamp is needing to be replaced on fuel pump suction to a crimp or Corbin clamp.

@Bullitt- well that explains it... I have the wrong tube  ... mine is one piece.  I got it years ago I think from Right Stuff Detailing; obviously "Wrong Stuff"  Just looked it up again... came up as #RPC7202 which Jegs has a picture of that matches the one I have.

Thanks.
