Yanked this out. Anyone have any extra shroud screw/washer to mail for the show. I WILL make it....

dropped radiator off today. They're going to work on sourcing the core and starting the restoration.

The mentioned it will be done by middle of next week. They say it only takes them 1 day to recore.

Get a high efficiency triple  core they are different with more cooling area

Isn't stock triple core?

If I call them tomorrow, provide me with enough info so I sound like I know what i'm talking about.

I have a feeling i'm in it for $700 so far...

If it's $100 to get better and it still looks stock, I'm all game.

If it's $300-400...I'm question if it's necessary...even with my high 13's plans..

Educate this young buck!

some were only 2 core , for max cooling you want to have the core as thick as the tanks , so make sure they are doing a 3 core High efficiency

So maybe I'll ask them if they know how much cores it is. If they say "3", then I'll say great.

If they say "2", I'll ask them how much to upgrade to a 3.

I'd be surprised if it's 2....I thought most of the "HD" cooling package were 3 cores.

I just figure if you are going to get it rebuilt anyway get it done the best possible result .

kawahonda

Yea. Problem with me dropping it off at 8:30 AM before coffee. I ask the basic questions, but my brain isn't working well enough to be able to ask every question.

I asked the important ones. How long, how much, and what paint to do you use. They are a 5-star place.

But I didn't quite get enough brain jolts to ask about upgradability and options. I'll call AM and verify. I just don't know much more a 3-core is worth over a 2-core. They use all made in US stuff....so either way it's going to be a drop-in perfect replacement. Just want to make sure what I spend for more is getting "more".

THanks Chryco. Love ya' man. Curious on to see your replay on my 1/4 mile thread!

More pics...one broken shroud screw. Is this an part-store pickup or is it like, rare to find...

They asked me if I wanted them to pressure test it...I was like...why would I spend more for that...just recore it!

Just trying to make sure there are no regrets once the $$ is spent

kawahonda

Standard recore is $600. That's keeping with the 2-row and efficiency.

The high efficiency is $770. That's keeping with a 2-row, but larger pipes/dimples, and stuff. He said it's triple the cooling effectiveness.

So I went with the high efficiency option. It'll be done by Tuesday of next week.

Did a boil test of Stan THermostat.

180F, I can start seeing a very small gap...

190F, the gap is obvious. Not completely open, but obvious.

By 200F, or possibly even before, she's fully open.

This Stant SuperStat tested better than original one.

Not the problem, though...at least I wouldn't put money on it. But yes, a must replace item. It didn't help, for sure.

My analysis is that this new and old thermostat both fully opened around the same time, but the Stant thermostat started to open sooner. It seemed more exact and responsive. Duh! I'd suspect this wasn't my problem--this makes me feel good about having dropped off radiator for  a recore.

I am deciding to NOT replace my water pump this time around. The water pump has been replaced. It has a chrysler part number, and is all black. It doesn't leak. I know it spins because I can move the temp gauge down at idle once it's hot. I'll save this MOpar pump that I bought for the rebuild. if I'm making a stupid choice, let me know. But that's my inclination.
