Thanks! I'm surprised by how well it is cooling! Didn't expect it to stay where it is on the gauge!

Where should my needle on my ammeter gauge be? It's every so slightly under the center tick-mark. I confirmed that my alternator is putting out proper volts during 2000ish RPMs.

I have reason to suspect that my battery is compromised because I killed it when I got my alternator rebuilt...didn't disconnect the battery and drained it hard....took 1-2 days for it on the charger before it even began to start charging again. Battery is a Mopar battery and is exactly a year old. I'm curious if the ammeter gauge is reflecting this potential issue.

I am happy this worked out , Mopar knew their stuff , go back to what the factory did & it works very well !
The ammeter should be about 1 needle width towards C on the guage , normal battery voltage is 13.2 you should be 14.0 or better running

Sketch of the highest I've seen temp gauge so far.

Have you added the bypass wire from the alternator to the starter relay?  If so pay attention to the volts & ignore the ammeter...

kawahonda

Yep. Added that. Noticed it may have caused some in accuracies with ammeter.

You'll still see discharges but most of the charge goes around the meter... Which is why I prefer to completely disable the ammeter...   Simply move both wires on the back of the ammeter to one post....

kawahonda

Makes sense, thanks! If I connect it all to a single post, what are the effects?

Nothing , the circuit is still connected , the gauge reads nothing

I supposed it's better for it to read where it's discharging (not that useful) than for it to read completely nothing (completely un-useful). Am I missing something though?

A volt meter would be nice...they make the ones that plug into the cigarette lighters....

Constantly seeing a discharge condition gives you that concern/doubt in the back of your mind.... Put a voltmeter on the car, eliminate the negative information from that ammeter that isn't reading accurately & enjoy the drive.... I actually like the voltmeter with the yellow/green/red lights so you don't have to be watching for it to get your attention if there's a problem...

Can glove box still close with that thing in? Would love to have something that can stay plugged in and open and close when I need to check.

Can anyone recommend a GOOD PCV valve. Holy crap, the part store ones suck. Seems like everyone I get makes that whistle/rattle noise most of the time...it's a slight noise, but right now it's the ONLY noise.

And yes, my vacuum is good. 16.5 inches at 3,000 feet....I think that translates to nearly 20 inches. Healthy motor...

The production tolerances suck on new PCV Valve , I have picked up 5+ all the same make & part# but they all flow different amounts of air !!
