Did the stock 340 in '73 come equipped with lash caps. I have stock bolt on rockers & shafts. I've heard  both ways. I have .340 between top of valve & bottom of rocker arm with lifter collapsed. I need longer push rods or lash caps. Push rods are 7.500. Thx for any help.

I'd say if you have .340" between the rocker arm and valve you have something horribly wrong? Maybe you meant .034"  :dunno: If so did you change anything? Head gasket thickness? , camshaft? different brand of hyd lifters? Deck surfaces machines? valves sunk into head? changed out pushrods?

So, is this engine fresh? What has been changed?  Lifters? Heads? Rockers? The pushrods are a tad short but not much....  Why are you concerned about the measurement with a collapsed lifter? The number you should be concerned with is with the lifter fully extended & you want about .060 preload.... Which there may be .300+ travel in the plunger so you could be fine.....

Oh, I Agree with Sheldon, no lash caps...

Brad, .he has 340 with the lifter collapsed I'm not sure theres even a problem, how much travel does the lifter plunger have?

gotcha.... not sure how much travel they have?  When I used to do Tech at circle track racing I used to check for the required hyd lifters using a visegrip c-clamp with a section of pushrod welded to one side. I pushed just enough to see oil coming out. It took a lot of pressure to compress the plunger, so I was thinking how is he actually measuring that if I understood him right? That's why I mentioned the .034" comment.   I had a set of Crane high intensity lifters in a Buick build once that I could collapse by pushing on the rocker, but they quickly got tossed in the garbage.....

Hey guys. I just realized I was barking up the wrong tree. I had some mis-information. I think I have it worked out. Sorry for the wild goose chase. Thanks Guys.

No Problem, we like geese..   Hope it all works out.....  BTW We like pictures.... Cars, women, puppies.... Doesn't matter...

I think I'm gonna go with adjustable roller rockers. Hopefully problem solved. What brand would be recommended for a pretty much stock 340? Thx.

Not a fan of roller rockers especially in a mild build that has no need for them....  Adding complexity which just means more parts to fail....

The cheap ($2-300) rockers are junk that will fail & put metal through your engine & theres no need for a set of $6-$700 rockers....

I was going to suggest ductile iron adjustable rockers since they are super reliable but I just checked the current pricing & they are nearly $500 without shafts shims or  pushrods...

PRW's are decent, but they are now $500...   Plus a set of pushrods...

Figure out whats wrong with your stock stuff, they have gone millions upon millions of miles without any problems, they should work for your application...

You are exactly right. I'm gonna run this rabbit till I knock it out. Thx for the input.

So where ae you at on it right now? You said you were going down the wrong road with it, but no details. Do you have a need for different length pushrods in different places?  Are your valve heights sitting at different heights when closed? Lots of smart guys here can help you if you provide them with more information.
