I'm just going to start off with carbs were long gone when I started driving in 2000.  And I'm lost to what I need.

So mostly stock 318 with a cheap mid rise intake 4 barrel.    Factory exhaust manifolds.  904.  2.72 (want to change this to 3.23 but my piñon was bent so someday I'll change back).

Fuel milage isn't import.  Engine will not be in there forever.   The stocker I want to build isn't in the budget right now.  Car has been at the same stage for quite awhile now just want to paint it and enjoy it for now.

I have no idea about choke, linkages I need, or vacuum anything. Can someone suggest somewhere to start?

get the carb, intake, throttle/trans linkages from a stock 318 as a unit.
Using an aftermarket carb, intake, will require aftermaket or modifed factory mounting brackets, linkages.
4 bbl 318's were never common on car engines in the 60/70's. So not so easy to find. 2bbl and 4 bbl carb/throttle linkages are different.
Especially if this is temporary. Stay stock. Less troubles.
Save your money for the later buildup.

My car went from 318 2bbl to 318 4bbl. I used an aftermarket choke cable initially, nothing now. My engine builder did some mods related to the kickdown and throttle, pictured. I can't recall if there was any mod done to the transmission lever. Some people use a Lokar cable for the kickdown.

We have no idea what you are working with.
Can't find any pictures of a "mostly stock 318 with a cheap midrise intake 4 bbl."
Does it run or are these just parts you have ? If so what carb do you have etc... ?
Need to know to determine linkages needed. Vacuum connections etc... Description is too vauge. Please post pictures.

So it already has these components ? If so, what exactly are you wanting to know ? Replacement parts, tuning, how it works ?

FWIW, my setup is an Edelbrock LD4B intake and a 600CFM Holley 1850.

Automatic transmission? Is there any kickdown linkage there now? If it was a two barrel the four barrel will require a different or modified kickdown bar as Jay Bee showed or you can go with a Lokar cable set up. For a stock 318 a 600 cfm Holley or Edelbrock would be good, you`ll need the Chrysler throttle cable adapter to go with it.

LD4B was a good small port 318 manifold years ago when they were still being made. Swap meet item now.
We need to hear from A.Gramz abouit what he has.  As I mentioned in post#1 ( I didn't try to give specifics since we have little info) I have personally done the different mods on a 2 to 4 bbl conversion And things like Lokar parts weren't around back in the 70's.
I will always recommend that you go with factory parts as often as you can. They are not generic, you fit type parts. They were engineered specifically for these engines. No guessing how much to cut, weld, do the angles align etc...
Where is Mr. A.Gramz ?

Sorry for the late reply

So I'm currently building a stock 318 I guess long block basically resealing the one that was sitting in there when I got it.  Car was half disassembled.  From what I can tell it's stock

I have a few 2 barrel carbs but there all frozen.  Figured I'd get a bit more out of it with a 4 barrel.

The 904 was in the trunk when I bought the car. So I have no idea if I have the correct linkages anyways.

I do not know what carb would be best or what cfm 500? 600?.  Electronic or manual choke?  What do I need to hook up vacuum wise.

I guess linkages and cables will depend on what carb

This is the type of intake in the picture.  Just a cheap generic la/magnum universal knock off.  Kinda trying to keep the price down as it's not going to be permanent but also know cheapest won't always work. Any other suggestions?

I do have a frozen 1850-2 which I believe is 600 cfm.  It is on a big block 383 intake.  Not sure if it's worth rebuilding and using that carb?  I think I have the linkages for that one but if I remember it was to a 727 I'm assuming there different knowing my luck.

Also do you recommend a spacer between manifold and carb ?
