N98 should be a 1971 Exhaust Emission Decal.

The tag also has n98 beside the n95.  Not sure what that codes for.

Some great information here. My car has the n95 option also.

Is your car also a 1971?

bentpshrods

Yes it is---a 71 Cuda.  Here is what is left of the control unit on mine. Looks like some of it is missing.

cataclysm80

Yes, it looks like the vacuum portion is missing.
It's an automatic transmission?

Well, I can see why you had trouble reading the tag.  :)

OK, process of elimination, we know that it's a 3 digit code.

First digit is unreadable, but we know it's a letter between N and R.

Second digit is difficult to read.  It's NOT a 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, or 7.
It could be a 3, 8, or 9.

Third digit is definitely a 5.

Here's a list of possible options that fit those parameters.
N95

Well, that's a short list.
Unless there's some kind of stamping error (rare, but not impossible), That's supposed to be N95.
The next thing to do would be to confirm it by looking at the car to see if any of the N95 equipment is still on the car.

I see you've posted a pic of that N95 part on a firewall.

Pretty sure that you have an N95 car.  :)

Other Notes:
Your E55 code is difficult to read, but it DOES say E55
Your J54 code is difficult to read, but it DOES say J54

It looks like your Scheduled Production Date might be 618, not 616.

Everything else looks correct.

It will be a neat car when you're done.

R35 is a 10 watt AM/FM Stereo Radio, which includes a crossover box and two stereo speakers on the dash pad in addition to the center speaker.
You could also have other radio options, but you'd need the broadcast sheet to know for sure, since they aren't coded on the fender tag.
Here's a list of the different variations of R35 which were available for 1971.

Coded R35 = (1970-74) 10 watt AM/FM stereo. Car will have a three speaker dash with speaker grills and three speakers with wiring. This setup requires a crossover box. The package tray will not have perforations for rear speakers. There will not be a rear speaker fader, or any other speaker wiring. The fender (or quarter panel on trans am cars) will have a hole for an antennae, and an antennae will be present with a lead going to the radio.

Coded H31, R35 = (1970-74) 10 watt AM/FM stereo. Car will have a three speaker dash with speaker grills and three speakers with wiring. This setup requires a crossover box. The package tray will have perforations in both sides. The right side is used as an air intake for the defogger. There will not be a rear speaker fader, or any other speaker wiring. The fender (or quarter panel on trans am cars) will have a hole for an antennae, and an antennae will be present with a lead going to the radio. The rear window defogger will have all of its parts and wiring, but will not come with an adapter housing for attaching a rear speaker.

Coded R35, R32 = (1971-74) 10 watt AM/FM stereo. Car will have a three speaker dash with speaker grills and three speakers with wiring. This setup requires a crossover box. The car will also have two rear speakers with wiring. The package tray will have perforations in both sides. A rear speaker fader (dual rheostat) will be present near the heater controls on rallye dash equipped cars, or on the underside of the instrument bezel near the fuel gauge on cars without the rallye dash. The fender will have a hole for an antennae, and an antennae will be present with a lead going to the radio.

Coded H31, R35, R32 = (1971-74) 10 watt AM/FM stereo. The rear window defogger will have all of its parts and wiring, but will also come with an adapter housing for attaching a rear speaker as this speaker location is also the air intake for the defogger. If the car is equipped with a spare tire, it will be a space saver spare tire.
