Hey Don.  cc.com alum here too.

I have a Passon rebuilt A833 OD in my 70 Challenger behind a 340.  It's.... OK.   First gear winds out very quickly so I don't use it much beyond maybe 10mph.   Driving around town where I used to live, I was mostly bouncing between 2nd and 3rd which have the wide spread mentioned above.  This wasn't very enjoyable, especially since there wasn't much highway driving to stretch the engine's legs.  This frustration led me to buy a Tremec TKX from SST after drooling over one at Carlisle. Then we moved to a place that's almost all highway driving.  I have 27" diameter rear tires and a 3.73 in the diff which runs about 2200 rpm at 70mph.  I drove it from NY to Texas mostly in this gear.   It was a comfortable cruise.

I'm still planning to go ahead with the tranny swap, hopefully by June.  I'll be selling the A833 OD afterwards if you're interested.

Dakota, thanks for the reply and info about the 1st gear.  My plan is to switch from 3.73 to 3.54 to help offset the tall first gear.  I got a trans, just got to rebuild it now.
