This winter I'm rebuilding the engine and trans from my Cuda. The previous owner had intentions to make it a drag car but never completed the build. My trans is not very street friendly (only at WOT). I need to know what you all would suggest for a street friendly build and converter. I have no intentions to go to the track. Just some spirited street driving.
TIA

Details on your engine, cam, gear ratio, tire size, etc would help.

I put a 2500 rpm stall in my 727 when I had it rebuilt last year.  I have a stockish 340 and car will be street driven and hopefully some auto-x.  I had them put in a TF2 shift kit and a bolt in sprag.  Should be good for 500+lb-ft of torque when I get the engine to that level.  Drives great on the street with very subdued shifting at low speed driving but holds gear properly if you give it the beans.

If you are mainly street driving, I don't think you want much more stall than 2500.

Might be better to just find another core , have it rebuilt with a Trans Go stage 2 shift kit in it & match the converter to the cam & intake rpm range .
If you have a small block I would seriously look at bolting up a 518 instead  :bigthumb:

Not sure but I'm guessing he has a T/A.. So if it's the #s trans it probably stays...

I saw that too , it would be cheaper to build another properly rather than undo everything for racing unless it is #s matching case .
The 518 OD is an obvious choice if #s is not important

Well then a 518 could be a great choice..

It can be built with the same parts that go in the 618 which is the diesel version...  800 Ft Lbs is no problem...

Please steer me to a couple of trans shops that know.
