I have a generic round air cleaner and would to go with an oval mopar single 4 barrel. My current air cleaner has a 1" drop to avoid contact with the hood. Is there a 1" drop base available for a 4 barrel oval setup?

I've never seen one but the 383 and 440 are different heights. Most of the cars out there with that air cleaner were 383s with the taller bases. If you could find a 440, that would get the overall height down a bit.

I believe Brad has a plastic base that can be modified lower as he also need to do that

The T/A style air cleaner I have and started with is from http://hybrid-fiberglass-solutions.com/  but they are not around anymore.  I then bought a base from PG classics and modified it, then I scored a original complete 440 set up locally from a 440 road runner (I'd guess) and that's what's currently on the car. I used this when I was fighting overheating issues thinking it would help by letting heat out of the T/A snorkel , (instead of the sealed to the hood T/A design), when I was stopped in traffic.  The 440 base sits the lowest.  Great reference/info here in case you haven't seen it before.

Someone on Moparts said he passed away.  I never saw anything about it though.  He was a young guy. Still wonder what happened.  He had a really nice black AAR clone.

Well that rots! Ya he was a pretty young guy.

I haven't finished it yet but here are some pics of one I'm doing. Dropped it 1". If you notice I had to notch the cross bar for the vent tubes on my carb. This is a 383 air cleaner going on a Edlebrock RPM Air Gap intake sitting on a 340. I also had to notch the base to clear my breather on passenger side. I cut 1" off the base then slotted and bent the tabs to drop in from above. That allowed me to retain the correct rolled base that fits the carb.

Shane, nice setup.

I've been thinking of doing something like this but it will take some major mods as I'm running the M1 intake on a 440.

That came out great! Nice work. I'd like to do something like that with a dual snorkel cleaner. I saved your photos for future reference.

I may be comparing apples to oranges here but I had a similar issue with my Shaker bubble sitting to high after I installed a Holley Dominator Intake and a Quickfuel carb.  I bought a Holley drop base air cleaner base on E-bay and a fiberglass Shaker base plate from Year One.  I cut the center out of the fiberglass shaker base and attached the Holley drop base to the fiberglass base with pop rivets and adhesive.  This actually dropped the Shaker bubble down to much and I had to install a carb spacer to raise it back up to the correct height.  Not sure if Year One sells a fiberglass base for the oval air cleaner set up but it might be worth a call.  I attached a picture of my modification for reference.  Good Luck.  :bigthumb:

That looks great too! I put a taller intake on my Challenger and I'm fairly sure I will run into hood clearance issues myself. I'd also like to put a small spacer under the carb for heat and these ideas should give me a great work around.

That looks great, love the idea of pop rivets for an easy solution that you won't see anyways. How did the pop rivets work when bonding metal to fiberglass? Did they dig into the fiberglass?

Also, anyone know if an oval air cleaner will clear a Holley double pumper carb? Will it fit under an rt hood with that carb, on a street dominator intake?

Circling back on this - anyone have a source for the cheapest fiberglass base? Looking for whatever my cheapest option will be for a 4 barrel base as I'll be cutting it up to make my own drop base over my holley carb.

I don't have a source but I have seen the fiberglass ones on eBay from time to time pretty cheap.
