That looks great, love the idea of pop rivets for an easy solution that you won't see anyways. How did the pop rivets work when bonding metal to fiberglass? Did they dig into the fiberglass?

No the pop rivets didn't cut into the fiberglas.  With the sealant they worked really well.

Would the oval air cleaners fit with a Sanden AC up top on a BB?  Might be a tight fit with the fittings?

I don't have a picture but I have built 2 cars with the Sanden / Sixpack system combo

So I ended up making my own base out of some leftover scrap and a round drop base. I'm running an rt hood so I figured a standard base is not need and I'd have to hack it up anyways so why not save $100 bucks? . I have $15 into the base. Some of the welds aren't the best but with some body work it'll be plenty good enough.

Do you think I should keep the base lip black or paint it orange to match the lid? Right now it's just primer.

I may be comparing apples to oranges here but I had a similar issue with my Shaker bubble sitting to high after I installed a Holley Dominator Intake and a Quickfuel carb.  I bought a Holley drop base air cleaner base on E-bay and a fiberglass Shaker base plate from Year One.  I cut the center out of the fiberglass shaker base and attached the Holley drop base to the fiberglass base with pop rivets and adhesive.  This actually dropped the Shaker bubble down to much and I had to install a carb spacer to raise it back up to the correct height.  Not sure if Year One sells a fiberglass base for the oval air cleaner set up but it might be worth a call.  I attached a picture of my modification for reference.  Good Luck.  :bigthumb:

Have you checked how much room you have between the base plate & the lid?  Put the lid/filter & baseplate tougher & check from the bottom.... A stock Sixpack will run better with the K&N tall filter because it allows more air flow.... The filter isn't the restriction, the space between the base & the lid is....

:iagree:

I love the look but this is why I may not go this direction.

I'm running a K&N filter right now.
