Any experience with Bestgasket rear main seal p/n 5297 sold by Mancini? I'm gonna work on the rear main leak and looking at all options for gaskets/seals.

I have had the best luck with felpro rear main seals!     :alan2cents:

I've never had a problem with Felpro either. Sorry, never heard of the other one.

I no longer use the FelPro seal kit , the seal is fine but they used to include the fiber strips for the side of the retainer plate , no longer included , now that have 2 pieces of pipe cleaner , how the $$*^ is that supposed to seal ??
never tried the Mancini part sorry  :sorry:

I don't understand why they gave up on the strips either$ I silicone the snot out of the rail and push the retainer in. Make sure I have good coverage on the inside cap to block joints.

The seal I'm inquiring about is a rope seal and claims to be a solution to the factory seals that no longer contain asbestos. I currently have a small leak with the felpro seal.

I tried the  Felpro in this motor on the previous rebuild and I understand the pipe cleaners are installed wet to activate the silicone. Unfortunately the previous motor had a marine crank installed and I tried 4 different seal methods to stop a leak that would drip a drop per second. Finally pulled the motor and replaced the crank and now this leak is a spot on the floor about 3 inch diam after it sits over night .

If I have the old strips I reuse them still ,
I have started running a bead of right stuff sealer inside the crankcase between the retainer plate & block in the gap where the strips sit , never had a leak since , pipe cleaners go in the trash .
You would have to pull the crank to install a rope seal , I can live with a drop or 2 vs taking the entire engine down

Last rope seal I did about 5 years ago came with a small pulling tool which allowed you to pull the rope seal in without removing the crank. It was just a hard wire with a loop on one end for your finger, and a corkscrew on the other that you screwed the end of the seal onto so you could pull it into place.
