Removing plug from water pump housing on 383

At some point in my R/T's life, someone removed the temp sending unit and put in a plug.  I am attempting to get the plug out and have not had much success.  Any ideas on getting this thing out?  Here is a pic of it.

  Use a torch to heat it up and use some "good" vice grips to turn it. Should come out. Worst case you will have to drill it out but be careful not to damage the threads. You can always run a tap through the hole.

Torch is good or try it after running the motor.  It will heat up quicker without coolant.

Good vise grips are your best friend.

once you get it hot you can melt parafin wax into the threads , this often helps , trans fluid is a good penetrant too !
Heat is the key though

If it brass you need to heat it or drill it, if its steel i weld anut on the end tap it on & weld in the hole.

There's no way I'm getting it out with the housing still in the car.  I think it's going to be a winter project.

Honestly, I'd pay $5 for a used one without the plug and swap it. You have to pull it anyway.
