I'm having a problem with my 1970 Cuda Shifter button.
The top of the shifter jumped out from the top of the handle, button and spring.
I looked everywhere on why.
I can get the button back on, but the spring causing it to pop out again.
Any ideal on what's causing that?

avatar_CudaHead @CudaHead It's possible that the threads in the button are stripped out. The button threads onto the shifter "rod" and the knob is held on with a set screw.

Button goes into knob first then that assembly is screwed onto the threaded "rod". There is a spec in the repair manual that tells you how far to thread the knob/button on until you tighten the set screw.

My threads were so badly stripped that I had to by a new button. That happened decades ago cruising with the top down when it popped up. Luckily I was going slow (heavy traffic) and it fell back down on the passenger seat.
